COMMONLY KNOWN ISSUES OF KITCHEN SINKS – PART 2

Share Post:

Condensation or “sweating” under the sink is another commonly known issue of kitchen sinks. This “sweating,” if allowed to continue over time, can damage the pipes, floors and storage below the sink. It may also cause some areas to rot and mould may build-up, if not properly cleaned.

Water pipes and tanks do not literally “sweat.” The water undergoes the process of condensation from moist air onto the surface of the cold water pipe, creating those sweat-like leaking particles. It usually happens when the temperature inside the kitchen cabinet is warmer than the air outside. Meaning, the greater the temperature difference, the higher is the risk of condensation.

One best illustration of this problem is taking out a can of drink from the refrigerator and leaving it on the table for 10 minutes. You will see those “sweat” on the can, which will then leak and make the table wet afterwards.

What to do?

Do Not Defrost On The Sink

The illustration mentioned above commonly happens when you defrost your frozen goods on your sink. Cold water drips through the sink, creating problems in the long run. Therefore, it is highly advised not to defrost your frozen goods on the sink. Whether in the kitchen or bathroom, doing so will prevent moisture drips and the possible growth of mould and other microorganisms underneath.

Install Ventilation Rings

Installing ventilation rings on the cabinet doors will create ventilation inside the kitchen cabinet, ensuring the air temperature inside the cabinet is not warmer than the temperature outside.

Like any other appliance, it is advisable to call for regular checking and maintenance of the sinks and piping at home. Not only that a professional hand will repair the sink and the pipes, but he can also provide some insights on how to prevent future damages that might happen.
